Our Facilities

EKC Folkestone College you’ll find everything you need to excel, whether you’re studying Technical Certificate in Professional Cookery, exploring creative subjects like Art and Design or Computing and Multimedia Production, or learning Carpentry or Bricklaying in our Construction area.

All our state-of-the-art facilities are available for staff and students to access during their time with us, and provide an ideal environment for students to thrive academically and enjoy a well-rounded experience during their time at College.

Construction workshops

Our fully equipped construction workshops provide a hands-on learning experience that prepares students for real-world trade work.

Designed to industry standards, these workshops feature dedicated areas for carpentry, bricklaying, plastering, bench joinery, and painting and decorating. Students train with professional tools and materials, gaining practical skills by working on real walls, door frames, and structures, just as they would on-site.

Whether mastering the art of bricklaying or perfecting a smooth plaster finish, our workshops offer an authentic, immersive environment that ensures students are ready to step confidently into the construction industry.

The Salon

Experience high street quality hair, beauty, nail, and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments at our commercial salon, all delivered by students under the expert guidance of industry professionals.

The Salon provides the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy some well-deserved self-care at an affordable price. Appointments are available throughout term time, though availability may vary at certain times of the academic year.

Visitors can check in at the College’s reception upon arrival, where they will be collected by a student or member of staff and guided to the salon. We offer a spacious drop-off and pick-up area, with on-site parking at the front of the College and additional public car parks just a short walk away.

Assistive Technology

Our new Assistive Technology Room is a state-of-the-art facility designed to showcase the latest advancements in independent living technology.

Equipped with cutting-edge devices, the room features eye-gaze controlled communication systems, automated lighting, smart door controls, and a range of assistive tools that support individuals with conditions like Dementia.

This interactive space allows visitors to explore and experience how these innovations can help people stay independent at home for longer, while also easing the workload of carers.

Whether learning about smart home adaptations or trialing the latest assistive technology, this facility offers invaluable insight into the future of independent living.

Professional training kitchens

Our professional training kitchen is a state-of-the-art facility where catering students learn to cook under the guidance of experienced professional chefs.

Equipped to industry standards, the kitchen provides a dynamic learning environment where students develop essential culinary skills, from food preparation to presentation.

Employers from the hospitality industry regularly visit the College to deliver workshops and masterclasses, giving students valuable insights and hands-on experience with expert techniques.

The kitchen also plays a vital role in our on-site refectory, where staff and students can enjoy a variety of hot and cold meals freshly prepared by our catering students, bridging the gap between training and real-world service.

Sports Hall and Gym

Our spacious Sports Hall is used by our Sports students for practical training sessions.

There are often opportunities to practice coaching their colleagues through activities and sports drills to develop their confidence, teamworking skills, knowledge of new sports and physical fitness.

Students can practice a range of sports including football, basketball, badminton and table tennis.

We also have a gym with modern equipment and a MUGA pitch.

The EDGE

Our Creative and Design and Computing and Digital facilities provide an inspiring, industry-standard environment where students can bring their ideas to life.

The EDGE, our professional creative workspace, features a purpose-built photography studio equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and lighting, alongside dedicated creative art rooms and a high-tech computer lab.

Students have access to industry-leading software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Blender, Unity, and Unreal Engine, ensuring they develop skills using the same tools as professionals.

Our green screen room enhances video production and editing opportunities, while specialist software supports game development and 3D design, preparing students for exciting careers in the creative and digital industries.

EKC Folkestone Nursery

EKC Folkestone Nursery is a vibrant, fully equipped nursery located within the College, providing high-quality early years education and care for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

With first-class facilities and spacious indoor and outdoor play areas, the nursery offers a safe and stimulating environment where children can learn, play, and grow.

Open to both the local community and adult learners studying at the College, it provides a convenient childcare solution for those balancing education with family life.

Our dedicated and experienced staff ensure each child receives the best possible start, laying strong foundations for their future learning journey.

The Refectory

The Refectory is the perfect place for students and staff to relax between classes and enjoy a great selection of hot and cold food at great value.

Start your day with a breakfast selection of pastries, fruit, and more. At lunchtime, choose from freshly prepared meals made by our Catering students and professional chefs, including curries, pasta dishes, sandwiches, salads, jacket potatoes, and homemade soup.

For a quick snack, vending machines are available throughout the day, keeping you fuelled even after the Refectory closes.

Inclusive Learning building

Our Inclusive Learning facilities provide a supportive and enriching environment where students can develop essential life skills and gain the confidence to thrive in their studies.

Designed to foster independence, these facilities include an Independent Living Learning Flat, where students practice everyday tasks, and a fully equipped training kitchen to build cooking skills.

A dedicated sensory room offers a calming space for relaxation and focus, while the outdoor learning area provides opportunities for hands-on, practical experiences.

At the heart of it all is our welcoming Student Hub, where learners can access support, connect with peers, and build the skills they need for a successful future.
