We caught up with two of our T Level Business Management and Administration students to learn about their experience.

By studying Business at EKC Folkestone College, you can build a foundation for your future in a range of areas.

With practical training, dedicated work placements, and a range of activities during the year, you’ll be able to share your knowledge and become an expert in the world of Business.

We spoke to two T Level Business Management and Administration students, Oliver and Liam, during their classes to see what they have learnt so far, what they enjoy about the course, and what they hope to do after College.

What are you enjoying about studying T Level Business at Folkestone

Oliver: “I like that we get to go out and do actual field work. We’ve recently done a lot of analysis around shareholders and there’s been some interesting bits that I wouldn’t have known about, had I not done this course.

“The guest speakers are great because you get to know different entrepreneurs and business owners. A couple of weeks ago we had a guy who does digital marketing and that was really interesting because I’ve got quite a passion for it.”

Liam: “I’m enjoying that we get to learn a lot for the future, so we know how to use these skills to run our own businesses one day. We’ve touched upon many different areas such as marketing, data analytics and sales.

“I also enjoy doing the tasks because you get to do group work, and you get to work with your friends.”

What’s been your favourite trip or event this year?

Liam: “We took part in a project where we had to come up with, finalise, and pitch our own new coffee brand which was really good. We went to EKC Canterbury College for the final pitches, which was nerve-wracking but exciting at the same time. We spent so many hours on each section leading up to the pitches.”

Oliver: “I’d personally agree, that task was really fun, pitching in front of JM Beverages. It also meant I got to utilise my existing Photoshopping skills and see how these are valuable in the world of business.”

Why did you apply for a Business course?

Oliver: “I’m interested in starting my own business one day, so I saw this course and thought I’d apply. I’d ideally like to start a business in something to do with reptiles, as this is a big interest of mine outside of College.”

Liam: “I joined this course for similar reasons. I’m also interested in starting my own business one day and I knew that this course is definitely going to help with skills that I need. I’m still thinking about what my business will be, but there’s lots of time to think about it.”

What are you proud of learning thanks to the course?

Oliver: “I think my confidence in speaking to people has increased a lot. I now feel a lot more confident in myself and I’ve had the opportunity to meet lots of different people which has been great.”

Liam: “I’ve also gained a lot of confidence, but more so in my presenting skills. Having the opportunity to pitch to external guests and other students has been eye-opening for me.”

What advice would you give to a new student?

Oliver: “I’d say just sink your teeth into the course. Some people may want to hold back and then ease into the course, but here there are so many great opportunities that you should literally get straight in there. Volunteering for things is also something I’d recommend.”

Liam: “I’d say consider all your options. Make sure that this is definitely the course you want to do. If you do, it may seem a little bit difficult at the start as its’ so different from school, but in the end it’ll work out and be very beneficial for you.”

Why should I choose to study a T Level?

Oliver: “I’d say that T Levels are good as it’s a lot easier to just focus in one area, rather than doing three A Levels and having to revise for so many different subjects. There’s a lot of things you can do on the course that you wouldn’t be able to with A Levels.”

Liam: “As the T Level is equal to three A Levels, it’s very beneficial for your future, no matter if you want to go into university or start your career.”

Thank you to Oliver and Liam for sharing their experiences, and we can’t wait to see where they go next in their Business journeys.
